Welcome to MikaelSilvestre.Com
A completely new site about France and England star Mikael Silvestre. The 31 year old, has only ever accepted the best since becoming a professional football player. He has only been at four clubs during his career, showing something much missed in today’s modern game - loyalty. Mikael is currently playing for Arsenal in England, after being brought in by Wenger in the 2007/08 transfer window. Mikael has vast experience of playing in the Champions League and the Premiership, just one reason why he is viewed as one of the best defenders playing in England. Not only has he been a vital player for Manchester United, Rennes and Inter Millan over the years, he has impressed at the highest level, competing for France 40 times which is a terrific contribution.
Silvestre went through the ranks at Rennes, and made his first team debut in 1995. In the next 3 years, he went on to make 49 appearances for the French Ligue 1 club. Inter Millan then came in with an offer for the young versatile defender, it was accepted and Silvestre moved to the Serie A club. However, he was only there one season, as Manchester United put a £4m bid in for Mikael, which was accepted. Silvestre’s time at Manchester United was undoubtedly his best in his career. He proved to be not only useful as a centre back, but as a left back too, which increased his importance to the Manchester United team. In nine years at Old Trafford, Silvestre made 249 appearances and scored 6 goals. As a defender though, his main duty was to help keep the goals out, without doubt he did this to a very high standard. However, in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, Silvestre picked up many injuries which kept him out of the side. And by 2007, Mikael was becoming surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Arsene Wenger, manager of Arsenal picked up on this. Arsenal then signed Silvestre for a fee of just under £1 Million. This is viewed as good business by Arsene Wenger, picking up an established, experienced international for that sort of price is becoming a rarity these days. Silvestre will hope to impress for Arsenal over the course of the next few years, and providing he stays relatively fit, he certainly has it in him to become one of the best defenders in the Premiership, again.
